Jan DowlandJan, a born and bred Wellingtonian, has an extensive background in the health and social services sector.

Jan was appointed to the Wellington Community Trust (WCT) in 2009 and was Chair from 2012 until early 2016.

She has worked in the health and social services sectors for much of the last 40 years in research, policy, management and leadership roles. After a mid-career move, she became a chartered accountant, and worked for a period as an auditor and senior business consultant with Ernst and Young.

However, it is working with people with the experience of mental illness and people with intellectual disability that has occupied the greatest part of Jan’s paid and voluntary careers. Her governance experience has mostly been in the mental health sector and includes being Chair of Platform and a trustee of Wellink.

Jan is a committed Wellingtonian having lived here all her adult life with her husband Mark. She is driven by a real conviction as to the central role NGOs have to play in civil society. She is honoured to be part of the community trust family and be able to make a contribution to the extraordinary efforts of people to protect our environment and heritage, and enrich the lives of all our citizens.
