The Wellington Community Trust (WCT) is a major independent funder in the Wellington region distributing grants for charitable, cultural, philanthropic and recreational purposes.
We aim to make the Wellington region bold and vibrant – a community that celebrates and sustains its achievements, diverse cultural groups and physical environment.
We operate in the wider Wellington region: from Otaki, down the Kapiti Coast to Porirua and Wellington, and up the Hutt Valley.
Following the sale of Trust Bank New Zealand in 1996, WCT received $44 million. Since then the Trust has built up a diverse investment portfolio and the original amount has grown to over $63 million.
Every year, WCT gives over $1.5 million in grants to community groups and organisations.
WCT is governed by the Community Trusts Act 1999. Our trustees are appointed by, and responsible to, the Minister of Finance.
Under the Act, every year we must:
- publish our financial statements and the auditor’s report on our website
- tell you how to get a list of who we approved funding for during the last financial year.
You can get this information from our website or on request from our office.
